The Ministry of Transport (MoT) is implementing 16 important and urgent traffic infrastructure projects in the Mekong Delta. These projects are speeding up to be put into use soon, thereby promoting economic and social development of the Mekong Delta.
There are specific projects such as:
Project of connecting the Mekong Delta central area (Vam Cong bridge, Cao Lanh bridge and N2 link route) has a total investment of VND 19.445 trillion, using capital grant aid from the Australian Government, preferential loans from the South Korean Government, ADB preferential loans and counterpart funds from the Vietnamese Government. The project was started in 2013 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2017.
Project of building the Lo Te-Rach Soi 52km-long road with a total investment of VND 6.694 trillion. In the early stage, it is constructed according to the standard of delta third-grade road (2 lanes). The project was started in 2016.

Project of building the Ho Chi Minh road (Nam Can-Dat Mui section) which is constructed according to the standard of delta third-grade road. The 59km-long project has a total investment of VND 3.815 trillion, using government bond capital. The project has opened the main car line and is building additional items. It is expected to complete the whole project in 2018.
Project of expanding a 5.8km-long route to avoid the national highway 1 (via Tan An city, Long An province). It is being surveyed and projected with a total investment of VND 400 billion, which is expected to be started by the end of 2017.
Project of building 7 bridges on national highway 1 (via Tien Giang province) with an expenditure of VND 200 billion from government bond capital. The project's investment policy is being planned.
Project of upgrading the national highway 61B (from Nga Ba Vinh Tuong to Long My) which is 7.75km long. Total investment of the project, started in August 2014, is VND 267 billion.
Project of renovating and upgrading the national highway 63 (via Ca Mau province), which is 38.6km long, with a total investment of VND 1.255 trillion. The project was started in late 2014.
Project of investment and construction of the Long Binh bridge, with a total investment of VND 799 billion by Vietnam and Cambodia, was completed in April 2017.
Project of expanding the national highway 54 (via Dong Thap province) is 31.2 km long, with a total investment of VND 228 billion. It was started in July 2015 and is slated for completion in the third quarter of 2017.
Project of investment and construction of the national highway 30 (Hong Ngu-Dinh Ba section), which is 18.6 km long, with a total investment of VND 849 billion from State budget in the 2016-2020 period.
Project of constructing the Trung Luong-My Thuan 51.1km-long expressway with a total investment of over VND 14.678 trillion in the form of BOT. Due to the difficulty in raising capital, the progress of the project is slow. Therefore, MoT has adjusted the project size and total investment capital after adjustment is VND 9.660 trillion. The project is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2020.
Project of constructing the Cai Lay 38.5km-long bypass, with a total investment of over VND 1.398 trillion in the form of BOT. It was basically completed.
Project of expanding the national highway 30 (An Huu-Cao Lanh section), which is 32.85 km long, with a total investment of VND 1.130 trillion in the form of BOT. As planned, the project will be implemented in the third quarter of 2017 and completed in 2018.
Project of building the national highway 53 (Long Ho-Ba Si section), which is 45.8 km long, with a total investment of VND 1.222 trillion in the form of BOT. It is expected to be implemented in the third quarter of 2017 and completed by the end of 2018.
Implementing the second phase of the project of upgrading, expanding and constructing 4 sections of the national highway 60, linking Rach Mieu Bridge and Co Chien Bridge, which belong to the Rach Mieu Bridge-National Highway 60 Investment Project (Tien Giang and Ben Tre). The 22.38 km-long project has a total investment of VND 1.752 trillion in the form of BOT. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2018 .
Recently, at the meeting of Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung with ministries, central agencies and Mekong Delta provinces on investment in transport infrastructure for the region, MoT also suggested the Government consider adjusting and adding funds for regional projects in the period 2017-2020. In this period, MoT plans to invest in 27 important and urgent projects in the Mekong Delta, with a total investment of about VND 67.336 trillion.
