Indonesia on November 17 launched a programme to deploy interactive flat panels (IFPs), or smartboards, marking the beginning of a nationwide digitalisation plan for classrooms aimed at modernising the public education system under the theme “Digitalisation for a Smart Indonesia.”

The ceremony took place at State Junior High School 4 in Bekasi, West Java and was connected online with several representative schools from across Indonesia. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, along with ministers and local leaders, inspected the school’s facilities and observed teachers and students demonstrating the interactive features of the smartboards, which enable real-time connectivity and overcome the limitations of traditional one-way devices.

President Prabowo emphasised that education is a key pillar of national progress. This programme represents a major effort by Indonesia to accelerate the education transformation process.

The classroom digitalisation initiative goes beyond providing smart boards, as it also includes laptops, digital learning materials on the “Rumah Pendidikan” platform, and digital transformation training courses for teachers.

This year, 288,000 IFPs are expected to be delivered to schools nationwide. With this move, the Indonesian government showed its hope that standardising digital tools and devices across the school network will help reduce educational access gaps between regions, provide a foundation for blended learning models, and prepare students to adapt to the digital economy.
