At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien informed that Can Tho city has recently received the support from Swiss partners, such as the Dariu Foundation and VMA in the fields of education and health. Especially in economic field, in 2023, the export turnover of goods to the Swiss market reached more than 556,250 USD, with the main export item being seafood. At the same time, Can Tho has been implementing phase 3 of the "Can Tho City Development Project and Strengthening Urban Resilience", funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) with the capital of 254 million USD. And up to now, a number of projects under this project (such as the protective embankment along Can Tho River, Cai Son - Muong Khai embankment, sluice gates, Quang Trung bridge, Tran Hoang Na street...) have been basically completed, contributing to meeting the city's urban development requirements. Thereby, Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien hoped that Mr. Thomas Gass would pay attention and introduce Swiss partners and investors to support Can Tho City in implementing projects on climate change response and investing in hi-tech agricultural development...

At the reception, Mr. Thomas Gass said that the purpose of this trip is to attend the conference on sustainable development of the Mekong River basin on March 12; to learn about socio-economic development orientation as well as the climate change response strategy of Can Tho city... Thereby, the ambassador hoped to further strengthen coordination between Swiss partners with Can Tho, especially in the fields of environmental protection, climate change and sustainable development for the development of Can Tho in particular and the Mekong Delta region in general.
