BroS – the unique Koi fish coffee shop

Located on the embankment of 3/2 Street, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City, BroS coffee has become a popular destination for many customers by quirky and pleasant space. Besides green environment, people come to BroS may view Koi fish -  a valuable carp species from Japan.

Two years into its operation, BroS coffee targets different kinds of customers from students to civil servants. They serve around 300-400 guests daily, especially on the mornings and weekends. Guests can sit on chairs or wooden floors when they come here. Most people like to sit near the pond to view colorful fish swimming in water.

“I love to go to BroS coffee because of cool ambiance and Koi carp with amazing patterns and colors. In addition, the coffee shop has a wide range of foods and drinks,” shared Mr. Tran Trung Nguyen, a regular customer of BroS coffee. Meanwhile, a resident of Ninh Kieu District, Mrs. Phan Thi My Nhan said: “I go to BroS coffee every weekend. It’s a very special place: quiet, nice music and Koi carp is very beautiful. Foods and drinks here are palatable. BroS coffee is my preferred place for receiving guests, especially faraway visitors.”

BroS coffee is constructed in Japanese building style with two rows of tile -roofed houses. Pathways are paved with laterite stone. There are plenty of  ornamental trees along the way that decorate the restaurant’s architectural space. The main feature of BroS coffee is Koi pond. Besides enjoying coffee, guests can view hundreds of Koi fish swimming in clean water. If requested, the coffee shop is willing to consult and sell the fish. All of their Koi are directly imported from Japan.

In addition to Koi fish, food is also a key element to attract customers to BroS coffee. Guests can enjoy regional cuisines such as thick noodle soup of Trang Bang Tay Ninh; vermicelli noodle soup (Northern cuisine) and Udon noodle soup with wheat flour imported from Japan. You can enjoy lunch with Trang Bang dew-wetted rice paper, boiled meat and vegetables bought from Tay Ninh province.

Manager of BroS coffee, Mr. Phan Van Mau said Koi fish coffee shop model is the idea of a restaurant’s shareholder named Nguyen Duy Phong who is interested in Koi fish, Japanese architecture and used to travel to Japan.

At the weekends, BroS coffee is an option not to be missed for those who love quiet space, harmony with nature, colorful Koi fish and traditional Japanese Udon noodles.

The price for Koi fish ranges from one million VND to 100 million VND, varying on size and color. According to Mr. Mau, Koi fish from Japan are distinguished by their patterns and colors. Compared to other species, Japanese Koi fish are longer and can reach one meter. It is fat when being looked from above, especially the head and shoulders. Eyes and scales are also larger. Only Koi fish from Japan have red color like that of blood or red pepper. Among the most valuable species are Koi that have a large red circle on the top of their head  symbolizing the Japanese flag.
